Abducted By Music On Mondays 2.11.13

A couple of the blogs I follow have music themed memes and I decided to incorporate that into my Levithan Loveathon!

I love music. I really do. And there are three bands that I am pretty obsessed with.

The first one being U2.

The only problem is that U2 tend to be... controversial. But I don't care because I die for them. They are my favorite band ever! If you have any negative U2 thoughts you feel like sharing in my comment section...save it! They are awesome!

Another is Coldplay. But I mean come on, who doesn't love Coldplay.

And the other is Dashboard Confessional.

Dashboard Confessional is one of those bands that not everyone has listened to or even heard of. That only means that I love them on a much more personal and intimate level.

So it is easy to see that when I read the Realm Of Possibility by David Levithan, I almost died when I found a reference to one of my favorite Dashboard songs.

To understand this quote all you really need to know is that these two guys are in a relationship, and one of the guys makes mix cds for the other themed around their time together.

"The whole time I've been talking, the radio
has remained silent. I've loaded the disc changer
with mixes set at random, so when I press play,
the result is a collage of our knowing references,
raspberry swirl and a case of you,
as cool as I  am and galileo,
the places you have come to fear the most,
lucky denver mint, wonderwall,
all I want is you."

Now, I do love Oasis so I love the Wonderwall shout out, and I want to believe that "All I Want Is You" is for the U2 song but I'm just not sure because I've heard other songs of the same name that are different.

But there is only one "The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most" and it is a powerful and beautiful song.

Here is the clip of the band performing the song on MTV's Unplugged.

I won't say anything about Coldplay, but love me some Dashboard. I sing screaming infidelities all the time... mostly when my hair is pissing me off, which kind of misses the point, but ya know. :)

Yay for the Dashboard reference! Levithan does have some good references in his books!

The man has good taste in music! He may be your music twin... Hmmm... It's like when Joey from Friends met his hand twin, only twenty times more epic.

And who the hell could have a problem with U2? It's like having a problem with oxygen. You need both to survive...

There are people out there that don't like U2?

Who are these people?

Also... I'm failing at your Levithan Loveathon. :( My plan was to listen to Will Grayson, Will Grayson but I was not enjoying it all (please don't hurt me!) and I have such little time to read I'll be lucky if I finish the book I already started.

I'm really sorry :(

Very cool Levithan Loveathon! I haven't read Realm of Possibility, but I would have been SO excited to hear Dashboard referenced—I loved them in high school!

Thanks for sharing!
