Abducted by My New Years Resolution: January

BeFunky_clock

"My New Years Resolution" is a meme I'm using to track my progress on my most important New Years Resolution which was to not purchase any new books......at all!

images (4)

This month I did really good! Technically the only books I bought were 2 textbooks and a cook book on my kindle. But textbooks are for school and the cook book was free so I don't think either of those count.

I did have one book smuggle its way into my apartment and that was Hidden Things. I won a copy of this book from Steph over at Fakesteph.com. Thanks again!

Now here is a list of the top ten books that I would have bought this month if I had only been allowed to!

The number one book I would have bought this month is…

koch

The Dinner by Herman Koch! I just recently read a review for this book about two brothers meeting for dinner to discuss what to do about their sons who have recently gotten themselves into trouble. Just reading the summery has already led to some good debates between me and some of my fellow bookie friends. At first I was nervous that a book about two brothers meeting for dinner wouldn’t be captivating enough to hold my interest for 300 pages. But then I read this blurb by author Gillian Flynn…

“Chilling, nasty, smart, shocking and unputdownable. Read the novel in one big gulp, and then make plans with friends – you’ll be desperate to debate this book.”

Now, I may not know Gillian Flynn personally, but after reading Gone Girl…I kind of trust her.
The other books that made it into my top five were…

Espionageformantimebetweenlasomething

The next five are the ones that I would have really thought about buying and would have either bought them now or saved them to add on to a future shopping cart.

I promise to remember you guys when 2014 rolls around!

The best part is that since I completed my first month of not buying books I got to get myself a treat from Gigi's Cupcakes!

GetAttachment

I wanted to make the candle stand out more so I took the picture with the lights off, but now you can barely see the cupcake! And I would have retaken it...but...um...yeah…it was eaten about three seconds after taking that picture was taken

Anyway, Let me know how you are doing on your resolutions or let me know if there are any books I should keep an eye out for next month.

Sunday in bed with...1.27.13

Sundays in bed with is hosted by the totally awesome, amazing, and outstanding Midnightbookgirl!

This past week was my first week back in school in about 6 or 7 years. I have recently decided to create a life for myself where I get to be a Librarian, and in order to do so I have to first get back into school to get my education degree.

I work full time, I'm in two book clubs, I sing in my church choir, and most of my family and friends live in town so I end up going out a lot. How am I going to fit in taking 4 courses and studying for them???

Yeah, that is a good question!

Well, I'm still trying to figure out how to balance everything but I really want to, for the sake of my own sanity, carve out some time on Sunday mornings to keep up on my blog and get some reading done. It is important to take that time because I do have a really long road ahead of my and I really don't want to get burned out.

So anyway, today I am spending some time with Ask the Passengers by A.S. King...

This is actually a book I have selected to read as part of my Levithan Loveathon in February, but I'm just not sure what my time is going to be like next month so I figured I would go ahead and get a head start.

I hope everyone has a great Sunday and gets lots of reading done! Feel free to leave me comments letting me know what books you are spending Sundays in Bed with.

Also for more information on my Levithan Loveathon please click on the link and check it out! It is going to be awesome and it is starting in just 4 and a half days!!!!!

Abducted by the 2013 LOVEATHON!!!

We are now only ...

DAYS
away from the 2013...

Can you tell I'm excited? Because I am really excited!!!

There will be two prizes up to grab, lots of David Levithan books to be read, and fun to have all around!!!

For those who don't know, the Levithan Loveathon is something that I started last year as a way to celebrate my favorite author, David Levithan. The basic idea behind it is that David began writing by creating short stories to give his friends as Valentine's Day gifts. Those short stories later became novels like Boy Meets Boy and How They Met and Other Stories. Because of this I chose February to be the month that I read as many of his books as I can. Last year, I did five but this year I've decided to only read three. I realized if I read five of his books every year I would run out of new books to read pretty quickly.

Let me give you a quick run down of why I love Levithan and then I'll explain how the prizes are going to work this year.

WHY I LOVE DAVID LEVITHAN:

1. Because I met him and got to talk to him and he is pretty cool people!

2. Because he writes beautifully! The way he chooses and plays with words is impeccable.

3. Because he always takes chances and risks with the ideas that we have of how a story should be told and structured  When I pick up his books I never know what I am going to get.

4. Because he loves, respects, and adores his fellow authors. He loves collaborating with other authors and artists more then writing his own projects and he supports and promotes his favorite books at times when he is supposed to be promoting his own.

And it is because of this fact that I am making some slight changes to the agenda for this years Levithan Loveathon!

When I went to David Levithan's book signing in October, he put a lot of emphasis at the end of the signing on recommending and promoting three books.

Endangered by Eliot Schrefer
Ask the Passengers by A.S. King
The Disenchantments by Nina LaCour

I've decided that since I'm only reading three David Levithan books this month, I would spend the rest of my time reading two of these as well.

I've been dying to read The Disenchantments since he recommended it! But I'm going to save that one for summer. Therefore my reading list for this years Levithan Loveathon is as follows:

How They Met and Other Stories (Levithan)
Ask The Passengers (King)
Love is the Higher Law (Levithan)
Endangered (Schrefer)
Every Day (Levithan)

Did I mention prizes???

Yes! There will be two prizes.

The first one is a book. There are no requirments for this prize other than signing up! The winner will get to choose from the five books I read which one they would like a copy of.

The second prize is a $25 gift card! To win this prize you have to read either Ask the Passengers (King) or Endangered (Schrefer) or any David Levithan book you can find and then post about it on your blog! Every time you read a Levithan book or the other two you will be entered to win!

Another post will be up closer to February with links for the giveaways!

But for now, get your book piles ready and start spreading the Levithan Love!!!

Abducted by Sundays in bed with...1.6.13

SundaysInBedWithSmall

Sundays In Bed With…is hosted by Kate over at Midnightbookgirl.com. It gives us a chance to share what books we are reading on Sundays, or which books we wish we were reading!

Today is the first Sunday that I don’t have to work in like 2 months! YAY! I went to mass this morning, did some grocery shopping, came home, made some lunch, now I’m curled up on my couch (completely stuffed because I’m just such a good cook) and watching season 4 of The Office.

I haven’t watched The Office in over a year so I’m coming back in right at the point where I’ve forgotten most of the jokes so now they’ve all become funny again!

After this episode I’m going to have to turn it off though because I have got to get some reading done!

I am planning on spending some time in bed with…

20130106_150313

I am way behind on this one and I have to finish it and the sequel by the 19th!

So, what are you reading today?

Abducted By 2013 Challenge!!!

It is time to announce the winners of my 2012 15,000 pages challenge!

CONGRATULATIONS

go to...............

ANNETTE from Annette's Book Spot won the prize for the most books read with a grand total of 64 books, making her average page count 234 pages!

JESSIE MARIE from The Daily Bookmark with an awesome total of 36 books towards the 15,000 page goal making her average page count 416!!!

Personally I'm intimidated by any book over 350 pages so I'm terribly impressed!

They each win a $10 gift card!!!

Also, I got so much positive feedback about this challenge, and so many requests to host it again, that I figure I'll give it another go as well!!!

This time I'm making some changes though.

So, I'm now presenting you with the "How Many Pages Will You Read???" challenge!

You can decide to shoot for either of the following goals:

15,000 pages

or for you over achievers out there...

30,000 pages!!!

Basically, just set your goal and keep track of how many pages you read. At the end of the year you'll submit your pages and there will be one prize from the pool of people who read 15,000 and a separate prize for those who met the goal of 30,000!

However, I will NOT lock you in! So if you aim high and shoot for the goal of 30,000 but don't make it, you can still enter to win the 15,000 page prize.

Thank you all so much for your encouragment and participation! I hope you will all come back in February for my...

which will be starting in exactly...

DAYS!!!!
